Anavia Leaves 3x Olympic Medalist in Dust

June 21, 2025 | Edition #145
👋 Hey, Speedsters!
The 2025 Wanda Diamond League made a return on this Friday with an electrifying Paris chapter. Records, win streaks, it had it all! An American sprinter cruised ahead unbeaten, whereas a hurdler just upset a World Record holder. Also, an Olympic champion defined the real meaning of perseverance as she ran despite her sickness! So, without further ado, let's dive in!

Battle's DL Domination Continues!

After today, most would agree that Anavia is UNSTOPPABLE! After all, she entered the 2025 Diamond League circuit with a win over Shericka Jackson in Xiamen. Post her iconic win, she kept the momentum going with 200m golds at the Shanghai and Rome DLs! And now...
Paris has fallen into her lap, too! On June 20, inside a packed Stade Charlety, Battle raced to clench her fourth 200m Diamond League win of this season. This time, she was faster than she'd ever gone in 2025. In just 22.27s, the American left her competition, like Amy Hunt, McKenzie Long, and others, in the dust. Here, watch how Battle showed no signs of slowing down!
And her reaction? "I am going to have a legend season this year." Well, having won 9 finals in a row, looks like she's already having it! In fact, she is handing upsets to the BIG names like Jamaican queen Shericka, Dina Asher-Smith, etc, like everyday business. Well, the 2019 200m world champion finished 6th yesterday…
Asher Smith might be the world's #6 200m woman right now, but she is going through a rough stretch. She hasn't won a single 200m or 100m race this season. Plus, she couldn't really make a splash at Grand Slam Track Kingston or Philly. Also, just when her podium finishes at the Oslo and Stockholm DLs this month looked slightly better, she has now returned to the bottom in Paris. Whereas, Battle's not sparing anyone, big or small, old or new!

Stark Redeemed Herself in Paris!

Looks like the Americans took the Paris Diamond League memo way too seriously! The women's 100m hurdles at the Paris DL was stacked with 3 Paris Olympics finalists: Ackera Nugent, Alaysha Johnson, and Devynne Charlton. But in there also stood Grace Stark… Olympic fifth-place finisher. And well, yesterday she took off and got things done in 12.21s (+0.7), to create a meet record by 0.11 seconds! Here, watch Stark's top form below!
And that’s not all! Stark’s 12.21s was her personal best, shaving 0.10s off her previous mark from 2024. And....It also jumped her up massively from #13 to now the #5 fastest in world history, #4 America, and #3 on the world lead! Yes, FIVE milestones in one run, how wild is that? As for second place?
That went to Tobi Amusan, the Nigerian world record-holder, who was hot on Stark’s heels, finishing just 0.03s behind, while Ackera Nugent came third in the 12.30s, the fastest time ever recorded for a third-place finish. Also, for Stark, this win must have meant much more than beating Olympic medalists and WR holders....
The last time Stark stomped down a track in Paris was at the 2024 Olympics. In 12.43s, she'd finished fifth and had lost out on a medal chance. Thus, she must have been searching for a medal in the Parisian soil, and she finally found it! However, Stark knew this one was written on the wall, “I’m just so excited to break 12.3, I really knew I could do it this year..." Kudos champ!

🎖️ Beyond The Medals
Sickness Couldn't Hold This Champ Back!

At the Paris Diamond League this Friday, Marileidy Paulino showed us exactly why she is the 400m Olympic gold medalist and record holder. In her race, it all came down to the finish as Paulino was going neck to neck with Salwa Eid Naser for most of the race, even in the home stretch! Thus, the two rivals nearly crossed the line inches apart......but...
Paulino emerged 0.04 seconds faster! Yeah, in 48.81s, the Dominican had once again limited Naser to a silver, just like the Paris Olympics. Here, watch Paulino edging off Naser by a hair! Naser might have gotten deja vu, just not the one she wanted. After all, she's the world lead this year with 48.67s. Yet, Paulino caught up to her. And you know, she did all this while being unwell!
Yes, after the race, Paulino said, “My stomach has been playing up a bit.” Still, she clocked the 2nd fastest time this year... Well, another box ticked off! Next for Paulino are the Monaco, Poland, and Zurich DLs in late summer. All that will help her with World Champs preparation. And if she manages to keep the momentum going, she might even become the first woman in history to win 4 DL Titles in the 400m! So she must be taking every step, after careful consideration!

📊 POLL OF THE DAY
Which Rivalry Are You Most Excited About This Season? |
Last Poll Result: We asked you, “After Tyreek Hill’s Recent Run and Noah’s 2025 Performances, Who Do You Think Would’ve Won the Showdown?” Well, the verdict still hangs in the air, as 49% of you said, “Noah Would’ve Defeated Him by Miles.” But the other half was split over, “Tyreek Is in Elite Form — Would Smoke Him” and “Would’ve Been a Close one!” Well, Tyreek did have a great run at the Last Chance Sprint Series on June 13, but it was still far away from Noah’s personal best by almost 0.36s. Thus, only them taking the tracks together can solve this mystery for us…

That’s it for today, folks! We’ll look to knock on your inbox soon with more interesting stories!
