🙌 HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY
Lyles Dedicates Olympics Gold To Late Coach
Before Noah Lyles turned out to be victorious at Stade de France and the fastest man in the world, Rashawn Jackson was the one who believed in that possibility a decade ago, even when times were tough for the Olympian. It was the time when Lyles was studying at the then-T. C. Williams High School and exploring his athletic abilities, Jackson saw the star in him. After winning the gold at the 100m race, the Florida native choked back on tears and said, “He believed that I was going to be a 100m runner just as much I was going to be a 200m runner.” And as his coach, supporter, and guide, Lyles wanted and expected that Jackson would be in the French capital to witness his rise to glory. However, Jackson sadly passed away in July at age 51.
After sprinting to the most dramatic gold win of his life in the five-thousandths of a second, Lyles remembered his coach at the 35m mark and catapulted to win a gold for him. He later posted the on X and dedicated the medal to Rashawn. Lyles said, “Hey Coach Rashawn, that one was for you RIP.” And not just him, the whole community remembered Rashawn through Lyles’ victory in France.

Carl Lewis' Verdict On Noah Lyles & Simone Biles
Who is the real GOAT in sports? It gets hard to name one when Noah Lyles, Simone Biles, and Katie Ledecky take turns to be declared one each day. But who gets to have it forever? EssentiallySports’ on-site reporter, Shreya Verma asked the exact question to the 9-time Olympic medalist Carl Lewis, and the ‘sportsman of the century’ threw a different perspective on the heated GOAT debate. He found it funny and rather took it back to his time, reminding everyone that 20 years ago, “We never used the word GOAT… I don’t look at it like that,” said Lewis. The 63-year-old further divulged that in today’s culture, most athletes are compared. Still, he was grateful to witness the greatness of Katie Ledecky, Simone Biles, Sha’Carri Richardson, and Noah Lyles at the Paris Olympics, instead of comparing their skills.
Lewis passed the baton to the next generation and just wanted the legacy to move forward without comparing one to another. Who is better, Lyles or Usain Bolt? Even in this animated debate, Lewis had a few words. He argued, “I also don’t get into comparing eras because you compete against the people you run against. I’m more marveled at the great athletes here and their stories.” Lewis proved why he has been one of the best in the spots, still!

Jordan Chiles’ Mother Speaks On Paris Olympics Decision
Jordan Chiles was to return from the floor exercise without any medal. It looked imminent. Up until, coach Cecile Landi approached the judges for a discrepancy and the scoreboard flashed inquiry. It was a tense environment in the Bercy Arena, as Chiles awaited the verdict on the mats and her family in the stands. Shreya Verma, EssentiallysSports correspondent, caught up with them as the mother, Gina Chiles revealed, “All of a sudden, we saw the board go across and it said ‘inquiry.’ That took us away. If you enquire, you can go down because they look at everything, or you can go up. And so we were like, every enquire had been denied to that point.” However, the inquiry ended up favoring Chiles and her mother’s dream, and from fifth place on the leaderboard, the 23-year-old was up on the podium, with her first-ever individual Olympic medal around her neck.
The judges undervalued the Gogean by Chiles at first, however, after the inquiry by coach Landi, Chiles landed 13.766, and defeated Ana Barbosu for the Bronze. It was a dramatic ending for the Chiles family, but the end was fruitful as the mother exclaimed, “Oh my gosh, what a crazy dramatic ending. We are out of words. We’re floating this shore.” Chiles, joined by Simone Biles and Rebeca Andrade, filled the podium with black beauty, and there, a sweet gesture by Biles took away the crowds. You will learn about it just in a minute.

Carl Lewis Reveals First Meet With Lyles
What happened when the legend of the track and field met the 27-year-old and newly crowned gold medalist? Well, it left a lasting impression on Carl Lewis about the phenom, Noah Lyles. The 9-time Olympic medalist, engaged in a conversation with EssentiallySports’ correspondent, Shreya Verma, and revealed how he perceived Lyles. The 63-year-old went straight to the point and regarded the 100m Olympic gold medalist, saying, “He’s [Noah] a person with crazy energy…he has some electric energy.” Notably, Lewis didn’t meet Lyles in the French capital for the first time. The two had shot an ad before that and the veteran was delighted to meet with the 27-year-old.
Lewis was pleasantly surprised by Lyles' humility and professionalism during their brief time together, something he didn't anticipate from such a young and successful athlete. He praised the sprinter and said, “He was extremely professional. I had a great time with it and we became friends out of that.” And it didn't stop there, the 63-year-old also met his family, including Keisha Caine. They had a great time, as Lewis reminisced, “He’s a nice kid, he has a nice family, and I really enjoyed it.”
😎 HERO OF THE DAY
Simone Biles Bows Down To Rebeca Andrade
When the individual floor exercise scores were being displayed at the Bercy Arena, Rebeca Andrade took the reins on the leaderboard at the 2024 Summer Games. And Simone Biles knew all about how to give it a perfect tribute. Andrade might not be retiring from the game altogether. However, she has suggested not doing all-around or floor exercises again in the Olympics. So when the 25-year-old won a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Biles was in awe of her arch-rival and bowed down to showcase her humble gesture. Jordan Chiles, who had a dramatic run making it to the podium, also joined her.
With all the grandeur, Andrade became the only Brazilian with six Olympic medals and the only one who could stress out even Biles! Yet, the American gymnast was all over her counterpart and said, “Rebeca’s so amazing… she’s a queen.” The 27-year-old has passed the baton to the new phenom, as she also hinted at retirement. When the next Olympics comes in 2028 in LA, the 11-time Olympic medalist might not be there to share a stage with Andrade and thus, the sweet gesture becomes more memorable than it already was.
Noah Lyles' Mother's Sweet Gesture
Junelle Bromfield has found a home away from home in Noah Lyles's family and Keisha Caine is the biggest reason behind it. The two sprinters had been dating for a while and as much as Caine supports her son, she has shown an equal amount of love to Bromfield, who lost her mother in 2021 because of cervical cancer. That love was shown after Lyles had won gold at the 100m race and ran to hug the love of his life. As the two embraced, mama Caine’s hand was on the shoulder and her manicure displayed the Jamaican flag she had to support Bromfield at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Although Lyles winning the Olympic glory took the spotlight, Caine’s sweet gesture melted the hearts of many. But it has not been the first and would not be the last. The Jamaican sprinter had revealed that once she moved to America, Caine helped her with many steps. Giving her a shootout, Bromfield said, “When I went to Florida, I wasn’t driving, and she took me to training and back every day, which was like 40 minutes. That’s a support that I’m extremely grateful for.” Caine has surely stepped up as the support Bromfield misses in whatever small and big ways she can.
