🌟 Track Stories

You Won’t Believe This 7-Yr-Old’s Speed!

When you dress like FloJo, you've got to run like FloJo! Well, looks like a 7-year-old dynamo took this a whole lot seriously. She showed up on the track dressed in a one-legged track suit like FloJo. And what happened next left jaws on the floor…

Let's set the scene: The AAU Junior Olympics were on, and the Girls' 4x100m relay for age U8 was underway. By the time the anchor leg started, the Desoto Nitro track club had a clear lead. Whereas the H-Town Hurricanes were second, looking like a mile behind. However, it all changed soon.

Enter: Nyomi Darby! She got her hands on the baton and took off! The crowd jumped out of their seats as she blazed past the lead runner and closed a huge gap. Her strides? Unreal! Here, watch how Nyomi's come-from-behind finish left spectators shocked! Eventually, she led the H-Town Hurricanes to a gold in 59.43s, 0.52s ahead of the runner-up. But if you think this is good, wait till you know more about her!

Well, Nyomi not just dominates track, but also the field! Just hours before the relay, she competed in the girls' U8 long jump. On her very first attempt, she leaped to 14ft 2 inches, won gold, and also set a new Junior Olympics record. Plus, she is the national age record holder in the event. And well, trust her to jump on both sand pits and gym mats, because Nyomi is a gymnast too. Honestly, is there anything she can't do?

August is going to be a treat for track fans! Just see this lineup!

Stop 1: Gyulai Istvan Memorial, August 12

The Caribbean veterans, Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, are both confirmed in the 100m here. And so is Tina Clayton, who has already beaten them at Jamaican nationals in 10.81s! Forgot how that looked? Watch the refresher below! Meanwhile, Tamari Davis is also coming to defend her 100m crown from last year!

On the men’s side, Akani Simbine and Kishane Thompson will meet again after the Shanghai Diamond League, where Simbine edged out Thompson by just 0.01s. So expect this to be a heated rematch. Also, the field is further stacked with Ackeem Blake, last year’s 100m silver medalist, and Ferdinand Omanyala, the African record holder!

Stop 2: Silesia Diamond League, August 16

Silesia promises fireworks. After all, Noah Lyles is confirmed for the 100m, which will be a Paris Olympics rematch because Kishane Thompson is there too! So expect the USA-Jamaica rivalry to heat up. Meanwhile, Noah’s feud with Kenny could take turns too, as Bednarek will also be in attendance. He hasn’t said which event, but it's likely the 100!

However, keep your eyes on Julien Alfred too, who is making her debut at Silesia in the 100m. Whereas Faith Kipyegon is entered in the 3000m, and Karsten Warholm and Femke Bol look all set for the 400m hurdles. Unfortunately, Jakob Ingebrigtsen has pulled out due to his injury, but the word is that Yared Nuguse might enter the 1500m!

Stop 3: Lausanne DL, August 20

Spoiler alert: Kenny Bednarek has withdrawn. But, the men’s 100m will still have a thrilling showdown between Oblique Seville, Kishane, and Noah Lyles. There’s the Tokyo Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs and USA’s World team member Courtney Lindsey too.

Also get ready to see Dina Asher-Smith go head-to-head with Shericka, the fastest 200m woman alive. While newly announced entries like McKenzie Long and Marileidy Paulino will also try their hands at the 200m. And lastly, Grant Fisher and Graham Blanks have both confirmed entries into the 5000m. So, keep your eyes glued to the track this month!

 🏃‍♀️ Beyond The Medals

New Updates Are Here!

Till now, the track world only knew that Sha’Carri and Christian Coleman had a heated altercation at the Seattle-Tacoma Airport on July 27. And that it led to Sha’Carri being detained till Monday. But now, the whole world can see exactly how it happened!

On August 8, the surveillance footage of the airport incident got out. From Sha’Carri repeatedly blocking Coleman’s path, pushing him against the wall, and even nudging him, it looked just as intense as it had sounded! Haven’t seen it? Here’s the footage of the altercation between Coleman and Sha’Carri!

While Sha’Carri remained quiet as the clip made rounds on the internet, Coleman spoke up. He must have had a tough few days, missing both the 100m and 200m Worlds spots despite his season-best 9.86s and 20.02s performances. Yet, he didn’t hold himself back as he posted, “Crazy how everybody got answers to other people’s problems and not their own.” Sounded like a clap back at the reactions around the video!

However just like at the nationals, Coleman still defended Sha’Carri! He added, “But this is not her end. I think it’s a new beginning. It’s all up to her though, so we’ll see.” Well, ever since the incident, there has been a question about where their relationship stands. But, it seems clear that Coleman isn’t rushing to burn the bridges. He’s giving it time.

Do You Want Her to Change Her Decision & Compete in both 400m & 400mH?” Clearly, the popular opinion was that she should as 69.33% voted yes. But, one of you said, “She already master the 400M H, now she need to fully concentrate and master the 400M flat.” So that she could be the G.O.A.T. in both!
