👋 Hey, Speedsters!

The track world is heating up! Ahead of the World Championships, Team USA has taken a major step. But will this boost their winning chances? Only time will tell…. So let’s dive in…

🌟 Track Stories

Team USA Makes a BIG Change!

The World Championships are just two months away, and Team USA has started shaking things up. In 2023, Team USA won 29 medals… Watch how the women’s relay team, led by Sha’Carri Richardson, blazed the track to clinch gold…. And to defend their dominance, the U.S. has added a new head coach for their women’s squad! Well, Richardson herself has called her: "A woman coach that will actually lead the team!!" So any guesses, who the new coach is?

It’s Caryl Smith Gilbert! She is officially taking over as the head coach for not just the U.S. women’s team heading to Worlds this September. But she will also be coaching for the sprint and hurdle events. However, it’s no surprise as she was named the 2025 National Women’s Coach of the Year! Also….

Just 15 days ago, Smith-Gilbert led the Georgia women’s team to its first-ever NCAA outdoor team title. And for Smith, it wasn’t something new! After all, it was her third title, as previously, she had won it in 2018 and 2021, with USC! Also, not just as a coach but as an athlete too, she has quite a long list of accolades…

Smith Gilbert is a former indoor national record holder in the 55–60m dashes, a state champion in the 200m, long jump, and the 100m. Oh, and the relays were her thing, too! Well, she has been an All-American in the 4x100m in 1988 and 1989. So yeah, it seems after a few misses in Paris, Team USA has made a big move to bounce back and grab all the medals!

Will Sha’Carri and Coleman Pass the Prefontaine Test?

After a year full of romantic celebrations, birthdays, vacations, and event appearances, it's now time for Sha’Carri Richardson and Christian Coleman to have a big track date! Confused? Well, this weekend, the couple will show up at the Prefontaine Classic....And in case you don’t remember, in the 2024 edition of the event, Richardson bagged gold in 100m, that too in just 10.83s. And Coleman, well, he defended his 2023 title with a 9.95s win in the 100m! Watch how Christian Coleman dominated Prefontaine with a back-to-back 100m victory below!

But this year, Coleman has a chance to make history…if he wins the Prefontaine 100m once again, he’ll become the second ever three-peater at this event! And that too, 11 years after Justin Gatlin did it. However, it's not going to be easy....

Standing in Coleman's way are Kishane Thompson (current world lead at 9.75s) and Trayvon Bromell, who clocked a 9.84s world lead last month at the Rome DL. There's also Lachlan Kennedy, who became the second ever Aussie to go sub 10 in May, and Bayanda Walaza, who recently broke the U20 South African record. So Coleman better roll up his sleeves, because....

As a couple, Coleman and Richardson have been going strong. Their chemistry and support for one another have made waves in 2025. But on the track, both have struggled this season. So this weekend, the lovebirds need to step up!

🎖️ Beyond The Medals

Big Showdowns Lined Up At Prefontaine!

By the time our next edition rolls out, the Pre Classic will be underway.....So here are a few must-watch matchups for you!

Women's 100m: This weekend, 5 of the 8 women from the Paris 100m final will be back on track! Yes, Sha’Carri is going to be up against those same rivals: gold medalist Julien Alfred and bronze medalist Melissa Jefferson-Wooden. Also returning from the Paris final are Marie-Josée Ta Lou Smith and Twanisha Terry. Interestingly, last year at Prefontaine, Richardson defeated all 4 of them. Relive Sha’Carri’s electrifying 100m victory here! But can she do it again?

Men's 200m: If you haven't heard already, the Paris 200m champion, Letsile Tebogo, is coming to the Pre Classic to face a few of his rivals once again. There's Paris silver medallist Kenny Bednarek, followed by Paris finalists Joseph Fahnbulleh and Alexander Ogando. But our instincts say, this one's going to be close as an in-form Bednarek may give Tebogo a run for his money!

Men's 400m: Once again, the reigning Olympic champ, Quincy Hall, will meet the silver medallist Mathew Hudson Smith and bronze medalist Muzala Samukonga… Thus, a Paris podium rematch is waiting for us. To add more fire, Paris finalists Christopher Bailey and Kirani James would be coming in hungry for redemption. So will the tables turn?

Women's 1500m: Faith Kipyegon, the reigning 1500m Olympic Champion, is returning to face the silver and bronze medalists from Paris, Jessica Hull and Georgia Bell. So, surely keep an eye out for this race!

Lastly, shot put can be a thriller too! Back in April, the organizers had announced that Ryan Crouser, Joe Kovacs, and Rajindra Campbell would all enter the Pre Classic ring. As of now, only Kovacs and Campbell are locked in. But if Crouser comes too, it will be mad fun!
