Shelly-Ann’s Off To Be a World Champion at 38!

Yesterday, at the Jamaican National Champs, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce ran her last 100 meters on Jamaican soil and successfully punched her ticket to her 9th World Championships, looking for that 17th World medal. Let's describe it all, for you…
Tina Clayton, Shericka Jackson, and Shelly-Ann all came out of the blocks blazing for that win… but the first two ran a few split seconds faster and took the top two spots, while Shelly-Ann clocked 10.91s for a third-place finish. But hey, top 3 qualify, right? So yep, she is off to Tokyo! Watch Shelly-Ann’s last Jamaican National race here!
Now at 38, 18 years after she ran her first race on Jamaican soil, Shelly-Ann saw it as a full-circle moment. She said, "I tried not to be too emotional and focus on my race, but I felt the love and I felt the support, and I’m truly grateful for it.” Well, honestly, how can she not be emotional? After all, people from her hometown, Waterhouse, just came to watch her race. But she isn’t done yet…
She is certainly looking for that sixth 100m World Champion title to settle her "unfinished business!" Yup, Shelly-Ann first became the world champ in 2009, missed the mark in 2011, but bounced back to reclaim the gold in 2013. In the coming years, the 2015, 2019, and 2022 titles fell into her lap too. But in Budapest, Sha'Carri Richardson stole the spotlight, limiting Shelly-Ann to the third spot. So will she win it back? Well, she agrees her starts haven’t been popping, but she never counts herself out, and neither do we!

Jamaican Men Are Back In Business!

Jamaican men weren’t looking so good in 2025. But yesterday, everything changed….In the presence of the 100m master, Usain Bolt, another 100m pro lit up the track! On Thursday, Kishane Thompson ran a solid 10.12s to finish first in the heats at the Jamaican National Champs. But on Friday, he shaved off an entire 0.37s to clock a world lead in 9.75s! Watch Kishane Thompson fearlessly defending his 2024 Jamaican championship crown below!
But Thompson wasn’t the only one flying high..… Behind him, Oblique Seville and Ackeem Blake looked equally formidable with 9.83s and 9.88s, respectively. Also, despite a nasty hamstring pull right before the race, Seville didn’t give up. And the result? All three: Thompson, Seville, and Blake are now on their way to the Tokyo Worlds, and they truly make the Jamaican squad look invincible. Because they aren’t just fast, but resilient too…..
After all, Thompson himself has had a rollercoaster season. Before the Champs, he had only run one 100m race this year, which he lost to Akani Simbine at the Shanghai DL. He also had two DQs at the World Relays, having to turn back without even starting. But now, it looks like he has bounced back, setting a new personal best, matching Yohan Blake’s 2012 meet record, and becoming the #6 fastest 100m sprinter in history. And his confidence was clearly visible in his words: "I’m a very hungry person... I let my actions do the talking." Well, you certainly do!

🎖️ Beyond The Medals
Rest Easy, Bill Dellinger!

This week, we lost Bill Dellinger, at the age of 91, who has contributed to the sport for over five decades…He started as a kid who would run to school every day, no matter rain or shine, and eventually became a distance runner…
Some say he was a pro at playing darts and pool. But we would bet our money on his athletic skills! After all, he has represented the USA at three Olympic Games: 1956, 1960, and 1964, and won a 5000m bronze medal in 1964. Here, watch that iconic race! But that was just the beginning of his story!
After hanging up his spikes, Dellinger took on several new roles.....First up, he served in the U.S. Air Force, and then soon joined the Oregon coaching staff, taking over reins from Bowerman, the Nike co-founder! What followed was legendary 54 years of cross country and track & field coaching. He gave Oregon 4 NCAA cross country team titles, 12 NCAA champions, and 17 Olympians.....Oh, yes, he was a true legend! And one of his star pupils?
Remember the Prefontaine Classic coming up on July 5? The man it’s named after, Steve Prefontaine, was trained by none other than Dellinger. Yep, the two were very close! In fact, when Prefontaine passed away in a car crash, Dellinger felt like he lost his son......Well, the men may have gone, but their legacies will continue to inspire us!
