The 1988 Seoul Olympics showcased the very best of Florence Griffith-Joyner (FloJo), as the sprint icon stormed to individual gold medals in both the women’s 100m and 200m finals. Her third gold came in the women’s 4x100m relay, where Team USA blazed to victory in 41.98 seconds. On October 1, FloJo set the tone with a blistering start, but it was Evelyn Ashford, the 100m silver medalist behind FloJo, who capitalized on that momentum, handing the US a decisive lead. Well, just six days after her defeat in the 100m, Ashford bounced back to deliver a stunning leg that sealed America’s dominance on the track, a golden moment still remembered 37 years later.
