👋 Hey, Speedsters!

The Diamond League was back this Friday, and it featured pure class! So hop one, the Rome chapter was just wild!

Kerley And Bednarek Better Watch Out For This Man!

Being lined up with the Paris Olympics 100m bronze medalist could easily make anyone nervous. Well, Trayvon Bromell felt it on Friday, at the Rome Diamond League when he found himself toe-to-toe with Fred Kerley and a field stacked with sprinting big dogs: “It was definitely a lot of jitters," he said. But what happened next will blow your mind...

Bromell started out fast and didn’t look back until he clocked his fastest 100m time in over three years, aka 9.84 seconds. With this, he snatched the world lead from Kenny Bednarek by just 0.02s, barely five days after Bednarek tied with Abdul Rasheed Saminu for the world lead at GST Philadelphia. Watch Bromell steal the spotlight with his world-leading run! But there's much more to applaud…

The way Bromell ran in Rome, there was no match for him in the entire field. Only one man, Emmanuel Eseme of Cameroon, managed to dip under 10s with a 9.99 finish.  And Fred Kerley? Oh, he faded away mid-race! He couldn't pace out Bromell, finishing 5th in 10.06s. Bromell, on the other hand, set a new mark for himself!

Individually, this was Bromell’s fastest legal run since his 9.81 at the U.S. Nationals in June 2022. Here is a refresher of his 2022 speedshow! But since then, he’s been through the wringer with injuries, breaks, and setbacks…However, now, he seems to be back! And let’s be real, the rest of the sprinters better pull up their socks!

The One Who Defeated Shericka is Still Unbeaten

26-year-old Anavia Battle is proving to be unstoppable, and there’s no way you didn’t hear about her. Previously at the Xiamen Diamond League, she pulled off a shocker by defeating Jamaican powerhouse Shericka Jackson in the 200m. Then again, Battle struck gold in Shanghai, despite jet lag and shifting climates. And now, in her third DL race this Friday in Rome, she left us speechless. Watch her 200m domination below!

In Rome, Anavia Battle grabbed her third Diamond League win of the season by clocking 22.53s in the 200m. Also, she hasn’t lost a single individual race this season since March 2024. So yeah, she’s on a roll, and one to watch out for. However, this isn’t just a lucky streak....

Battle has been known for taking down big names. After all, back in 2021, at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Anavia Battle stole the spotlight by beating none other than the legendary Allyson Felix to book her ticket to Tokyo. Just imagine outpacing a nine-time Olympic medalist, insane, right? Then in 2024, Battle left the reigning 100m world champion, Sha’Carri Richardson, in the dust at the Shanghai Diamond League. So, yes, all eyes are on Anavia Battle and her next race!

🎖️Beyond the Medals

One Run, FOUR Records!

What did we just witness? Many would have been left asking the same after Beatrice Chebet’s crazy performance on Friday. The Kenyan was up against the cream of the crop, aka current world record holder Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia, and Italy’s Olympic 10,000m medalist Nadia Battocletti at the Rome DL, 5000m. But in the end, Chebet stole the show and left these names out of the discussion!

Chebet ran a blistering 14:03.69 in the 5000m in Rome. Her time is now the second-fastest 5000m ever, missing the world record by just two and a half seconds. It also became the Kenyan national record, the world lead for 2025, and a Diamond League meet record. Clearly, Chebet was on fire. Watch her historic DL run here! But while she was breaking records like China plates, where was Gudaf Tsegay, the reigning world record holder?

Well, Tsegay held on for as long as she could, but with around four laps to go, just shy of the 10-minute mark, she rocketed. And why not? After all, Chebet’s the reigning Olympic champ in the 5000m! A little refresher, Faith Kipyegon and Gudaf Tsegay got tangled in an arm-locking, shoulder-shoving incident during their 5000m run at Paris. But in the middle of that chaos, Chebet seized the moment and clocked 14:28.56, aka the second-fastest time in Olympic history. So yes, Chebet is really the long-distance masterclass!
