Your 2025 Recap With ES Athletics

December 31, 2025 | Edition #363

Hey Athletics Fans,

Happy New Year’s Eve!

Another year is in the books, and you've stuck with us in the fan seat all year. So first, a huge Thank You for making 2025 a success! We couldn't have done it without you all.

Going by the numbers, it was a great year for us.

  • 456 posts delivered hundreds of Olympics stories that mattered.

  • We crossed 300 editions and grew to a family of 180k subscribers.

  • We also got a makeover from just track and field to all things Olympics!

So before we welcome 2026, it's time for a small recap to pause and appreciate the milestone year that this has been.

MOST READ ENTITIES OF THE YEAR

One thing about Noah Lyles is he always makes the headlines. He may have lost his 100m world title this year, but he's clearly swept this one away. Updates on Lyles got the most clicks, and were the ones that had you coming back for more.

However, Lyles shared the podium with two women this time, Sha’Carri Richardson and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. Every time they showed up on the track, (or didn’t) you clicked to know what’s happened. Although a few names like Gabby, Quincy, and Femke didn’t make it to the podium, they still kept you invested.

MOST VIRAL STORIES OF THE YEAR

In all honesty, this year wasn’t the easiest for the Olympics community. The sudden passing of a 26-year-old All-American in August jolted us all. While many of you took a moment to look deep into his life and career as an athlete, the update remained the most-viewed this year.

Also, more recent incidents of a ski accident and a clash erupting at an Olympian’s wedding had your hearts going out to those involved. But beyond these, there were stories about sporting bans, PETA controversies, and more that had readers arriving in droves.

LONGEST READS OF THE YEAR

Now onto the stories that had you scrolling from paragraph to paragraph, possibly forgetting the back button ever existed (thankfully so).

After all, who can blame you? With Justin Gatlin being upset with Gabby Thomas’ ban demand, and Usain Bolt finally finding hope in his fraud case, it’s no wonder you were hooked to every word. Meanwhile, controversies like the one between Noah and Kenny at US Nationals, got some of you to scroll till the very end of the page, too!

HOTTEST DEBATES OF THE YEAR

Some poll questions turned into real conversation starters this year. When the LA Olympics announced that all rounds of the Women’s 100m would be conducted on the same day, we asked you, “Wouldn’t it be too tiring for the athletes?” That quickly turned into the debate of the year with 563 votes casted and over 60 comments posted. And so did a few other questions listed below.

  • Do You Think GST's Decision to File for Bankruptcy Was the Right Move?

  • Do You Think Quincy Wilson Made the Right College Choice?

  • Do You Think Unruly Spectators Must be Punished?
